With guidance, career planning, and a supportive campus community, Oluwaseun is on track to achieve her goal of becoming a pediatrician.

Years ago, Oluwaseun had a sneak peek into the world of medicine through a family friend, a physician in her native country of Nigeria. Seeing the way doctors and nurses passionately worked together to help their patients inspired her to think about becoming a physician herself.

After relocating from Nigeria to the U.S., Oluwaseun enrolled at Prince George’s Community College to begin building her foundation. As a resident of Laurel, she was pleased to learn that she could take many of her classes at Laurel College Center. She is pursuing an associate degree and plans to transfer to four-year school in Maryland to complete a bachelor’s degree in biology.

“What I am learning is preparing me for my goal to become a pediatrician,” said Oluwaseun. “I have felt welcome here since day one and have met many students with similar interests and goals – many of whom have been good role models for me to follow.”

Oluwaseun sees the value in getting involved in activities happening on campus, beyond the walls of the classroom, as well as taking advantage of the many support services offered by the staff at Laurel College Center. She is active in the biology club, has helped plan on-campus events, and is already tapping into the career planning services available through her school.

“The people who work at Laurel College Center truly come to your aid; they meet you where you are and help guide you as you are working toward your goals,” said Oluwaseun. “They want to know who you are as a person and what they can do to help you get to where you want to be. It creates a real family atmosphere and makes you feel like you have the support you need to grow.”
